Installation of Perimeter Coping and Deck
Pool decking is a visual part of the pool and has many options. Acrylic decking, sometimes called “kool deck,” is the least expensive option but has the shortest life expectancy. Acrlic deck is concrete with a coating and colored to a specific color. Starts bu forming and grading the area. After the forms are set, the concrete is poured and coated. Lastly, the color is applied. This process usually takes several days to complete.
Another option for decking around the pool and spa is flagstone. Available in a variety of colors and sizes, flagstone is an aesthetically pleasing option for pool area. Flagstone takes longer to install than acrylic decks. All the pieces are hand cut and fit together.
Pavers are also a popular options for decking. They can be broken down into two basic categories, concrete pavers such as Pavestone or Belgard and travertine pavers which are cooler to the touch and come in larger sizes. The installation process is essentially the same. After grading the area for the pavers, a sand bed is leveled and all the pavers are set. The boarder of the pavers is set in concrete and the pavers are vibrated into place.
The pool coping can be the same as the pool decking or it can be another material that compliments the pool deck. This is the portion of the deck that is directly connected to the perimeter of the pool. For concrete options like exposed aggregate, architectural concrete or acrylic deck, forms are set first then concrete is poured. With stone options like flagstone, slate, bullnose travertine paver coping or concrete paver coping, each piece is cut to size and installed around the pool edge.
