Every different type of pool has its own unique plumbing schematic and pipe sizing. Pool, pool and spa, or pool with a separate spa all have different plumbing configurations. Play pools and diver pools differ from a negative edge pool, infinity or vanishing edge pools. Zero edge pools and perimeter overflow pools and spas also have different plumbing layouts and installations. For most people, the plumbing options are an in floor cleaning system or a vacuum system and the pool equipment.

Manual vacuum cleaning systems remain an effective and inexpensive option to clean your pool. The simplest form of the system consists of a pump, skimmer, filter, and vacuum. The vacuum scours the pool walls and floor and sends the dirty water to the filter which is then returned to the pool. The top debris is pulled through the skimmer and remains in the basket.

Pool in-floor cleaning systems are more desirable for custom pools and spas mainly for the aesthetics. Most people do not want a vacuum in the pool constantly and prefer the clean look of the floor heads. This type of system also cleans steps and benches which a vacuum system does not. In floor systems are more expensive than vacuum systems, but the benefits outweigh the cost savings. In floor systems promote healthier water with better circulation. We install heavy debris drains in all pools and spas along with a leaf trap in all in-floor pool installations. No cleaning system will be perfect, but with the proper components we can minimize the maintenance required and improve the pool experience.

The pool equipment is the drive train of the system. Quality pool equipment and proper sizing and selection is what will make your pool effective and user friendly. Our goal is to minimize maintenance and keep your pool functioning properly with little to no effort. The majority of our pools and spas have multiple pumps and filters, secondary sanitizers, and automation. Pool equipment can be 10% or more of the overall cost of luxury and resort style pools.

Plumbing is mostly an underground phase so there will be wide trenches from the pool equipment to the pool and surrounding areas. The trenches are left open until shotcrete and all the piping will be exposed. The entire system will be pressurized to confirm no leaks are present and will stay under pressure until the pool interior is installed. The pool equipment may or may not be installed at this time depending on the specific pool. Plumbing is not necessarily a loud phase of construction, but often times heavy equipment is needed to trench for all the piping.

Plumbing for new custom pools normally takes about 1 week. It may require several trips at different times if you have a large or complicated pool build. Pool remodels will vary and could be as little as 1 day or several days with multiple visits depending on the extent of the pool renovation.
